Student who died 3 months after being shot in uprising buried with state honours
The body of Abdullah, the student who died yesterday after being shot during the anti-discrimination students movement on August 5, was buried in Benapole of Jashore today.
Hundreds of people gathered to see Abdullah in Baranchra village under Benapole Port Police Station when the body reached the village last night. His Namaz-e-janaza was held at Benapole Ballfield at 11:00am.
A police team gave him the guard of honour before the funeral and later Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rajib Hasan paid tribute to the deceased.
Thousands of people took part in the prayer, following which his body was buried in the family graveyard at his village home.
Abdullah, 23, suffered bullet wounds during the mass uprising on August 5 and died at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka yesterday.
Abdullah was son of Abdul Jabbar, a day labourer from Baranchra Terminal Para village in Benapole. Abdullah was the youngest among three brothers and one sister.
He was a fourth-year student of the political sciences department at Government Shahid Suhrawardy College.
He breathed his last around 7:00am, more than three months after he suffered bullet wounds in the head, his father Abdul Jabbar told The Daily Star. He used to live and study from his sister's house in Dhaka.
