AL men throng in front of IEB to join procession

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League and its associated bodies started gathering near the Institute of Engineers (IEB) in Dhaka's Ramna area to join the "peace and development" procession.

Wearing colourful T-shirts, caps and chanting slogans, the ruling party men are converging at the starting point in small groups.

Dhaka City (South) Unit organised the event protesting the "terror and anarchy of BNP-Jamaat".

The procession is scheduled to be brought out from the premises of IEB at 3:00pm and it will end at Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi-32 after marching through Shahbagh intersection, Elephant Road and City College, said a press release here on Monday.

Before the procession, a brief rally will be arranged in front of the IEB.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will address the rally as the chief guest while Dhaka City South President Abu Ahmed Mannafi will chair the event.

Vehicular movement from Matsya Bhaban to Shahbagh intersection remained suspended following the procession, causing severe gridlock in the area.

The vehicles are using a single lane to reach their destinations.
