The National Citizen Party (NCP) formally applied to the Election Commission (EC) for registration as a political party, the party confirmed today.

"We have submitted our application to the Election Commission after fulfilling all the conditions required under the Representation of the People Order (RPO). The commission accepted our documents and issued a receipt," said Akhter Hossen, the party's member secretary, following the submission.

The NCP has requested the water lily as its primary electoral symbol, with pen and mobile phone listed as alternatives, according to the party's chief coordinator, Nasiruddin Patwary.

As part of its application, the NCP reported forming 130 upazila-level committees and approximately 30 district committees across the country.

The EC began accepting applications for new party registrations on March 10. In response to requests from 46 parties, the Commission later extended the registration deadline by two months on April 20.

Party registration with the EC was introduced in 2008, and currently, 50 political parties are officially registered.

The NCP delegation that submitted the application included Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, Senior Joint Convener Samantha Sharmin, and Chief Organiser (Northern region) Sarjis Alam.
