BRTA fines private bus operators for overcharging

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) fined nine private bus operators today for overcharging passengers and other irregularities, after conducting mobile courts in several terminals of Dhaka.

To prevent suffering of passengers in public transport during the Eid rush, BRTA magistrates conducted mobile court drives at Sayedabad, Gabtoli, Fulbaria, and Mohakhali bus terminals.

According to a press release from the Road Transport and Highways Division, fare charts were properly displayed at every counter in Gabtoli and Mohakhali bus terminals, and no complaints of overcharging were reported.

However, at Sayedabad bus terminal, Nilachal Paribahan, operating on the Ramgati-Lakshmipur route, was fined Tk 3,000 for charging passengers an extra Tk 100 in fare.

At Kamarpara, New Safa Paribahan, operating on the Gaibandha route, was fined Tk 4,000 for overcharging two passengers by Tk 100 each.

Additionally, Mirpur D Link and Nilachal Paribahan were fined Tk 4,000 for failing to display fare charts.

At Fulbaria bus terminal, Dola Paribahan, Golden Line, and Emad Paribahan were fined Tk 6,000 for not displaying fare charts.

Labiba Paribahan, Sonartori Paribahan and Seba Green Line Paribahan were also fined 10,000 each for overcharging during a drive at Rainkhola in Mirpur.
