Sewerage lines of 342 Baridhara houses linked to lakes: Atiqul
Sewerage lines of 342 out of 550 houses in Dhaka's Baridhara Diplomatic Zone are connected to lakes and drains.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam disclosed this, referring to a recent survey conducted by the city corporation.
The mayor was talking to reporters during a drive on Road-11 at Baridhara Diplomatic Zone this morning.
During the drive, sewerage lines of four houses were sealed up, for dumping waste into lakes and drains.
"Only five houses have sewerage lines while 203 have met a lot of requirements. On the other hand, 342 houses have not met any of the conditions," said the mayor.
"The city corporation would not allow waste dumping into lakes or sewers."
He stated that the drive would continue.
Around 85 percent houses in the capital's Gulshan, Baridhara, Niketan and Banani areas have their sewer lines connected to nearby lakes and canals, polluting the water bodies, accordingb to an assessment.
