Canadian minister visits PDBF programme in Mymensingh
Canadian Minister for International Co-operation Susan Whelan visited Goari Muktir Bazar Mohila Samity of Valuka under Mymensingh on January 7 to acquaint herself with microcredit and social development programme of Palli Daridro Bimochon Foundation (PDBF), says a press release.
During the visit Susan met with the society members and discussed various aspects of micro-credit and social development programme that have empowered the women.
The minister was very pleased to observe various innovative income generation activities in operation.
She lauded the role of PDBF for its successful microcredit and social development programmes in the rural areas of Bangladesh for assetless rural poor, mostly women, to help them come out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
She hoped that PDBF would expand its activities in other areas like health, education, and social welfare.
The society members were very happy to meet Susan Whelan at their samity and expressed gratitude to Canadian minister for providing financial support in the poverty alleviation programme of PBDF and hoped that their support would continue for eradicating rural poverty in Bangladesh.
AQ Siddiqui, managing director of PDBF explained the operation of microcredit and social development programmes of the Foundation in the rural areas of Bangladesh and informed the Canadian minister that an expansion plan had been taken to establish PDBF branch offices in some other districts in order to extend the assistance.
The function was also attended by Gerry Campbell, the Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and members of the entourage of the Canadian minister.
