Aftab killing case: BNP ex-MP Tripti's bail rejected
A Dhaka court today rejected the bail of former BNP lawmaker Mofiqul Hasan Tripti in connection with the 2006 murder of Prof Aftab Ahmed.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Fahad Bin Amin Chowdhury ordered to sent Tripti to jail after a short hearing on the 10-day remand prayer submitted by Criminal Investigation Department inspector Subrata Kumar Shaha.
The court kept the 10-day remand prayer into the case file as the matter of the incident is pending with the High Court.
Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder told the court that his client on May 29 last year got ad-interim bail from the High Court that asked law enforcement agencies not to arrest Tripti without any arrest warrant from any court. So the arrest by the CID was a gross-violation of the HC order.
CID arrested Tripti from his Banani residence in the capital on August 8.
On September 23, 2006, three unidentified youths shot Prof Aftab, a senior professor of political science at Dhaka University (DU), entering his Fuller Road residence on DU campus.
He was rushed to Samorita Hospital with two bullet wounds and later transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where he succumbed to his injuries four days later.
