4th grader ‘raped’ in Gaibandha, 1 held

A 10-year-old schoolgirl has been allegedly raped by a stalker in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.

The incident took place last night around 9:00pm when the accused, abdul Alim alias Angur, 24, took the girl, a student of class four in a primary school and a resident of Parail village in the upazila, to an empty house and forcibly raped her, reports our Gaibandha correspondent quoting police.

The culprit later went into hiding, leaving the victim in the house unconscious and bleeding profusely, said Mojibar Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station.

Family members later rescued her from the house after they began searching for her in the area and took her to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex where she is being treated at the intensive care unit.

A case was filed in this connection last night, after which police arrested the alleged rapist from his hiding place on information, the OC said.

“Abdul Alim has confessed to the crime in primary interrogation,” OC Mojibar added.
