Another UPDF man killed in Khagrachhari gun attack
An activist of United People Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed and three others were injured in a stampede after unidentified gunmen attacked a protest rally in Khagrachhari’s Perachhara area this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shan Kumar Chakma, 55, our local correspondent reports quoting Dr Nayan Moy Tripura, a physician of Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital.
UPDF brought out the rally in the area protesting closure of shops and extortion. While the rally reached Perachhara area around 12:00pm, unidentified miscreants fired blanks to disperse the protesters, triggering a stampede, witnesses said.
Critically injured, Shan Kumar was brought to the hospital where he was declared dead, the doctor said.
The victim had injury marks at the back of his head and he died of profuse bleeding, he added.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Khagrachhari MM Salah Uddin confirmed the incident.
Earlier in the day, six people, mostly UPDF leaders, were gunned down in the district.
