Full HC verdict on Jamaat registration published
The High Court today released its full verdict cancelling Jamaat-e-Islami's registration with the election commission as a political party.
The 158-page full text was published 93 days after a three-judge HC bench delivered its decision on the much-debated issue whether Jamaat's listing with the election office was legal or not.
The judgement will now clear the way for the Election Commission (EC) to take a decision about allowing Jamaat leaders for contesting in next JS election.
In its judgement, the HC said the EC earlier argued that it registered Jamaat as a political party for a time being. But there is no provision in the law to give registration to a party on temporary basis.
Jamaat's registration is illegal according to the provision, Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque said in the full verdict.
Justice M Enayetur Rahim said in the judgement that he agreed with Justice Reza-Ul Hoque.
Meanwhile, Justice M Moazzem Hossain, who was presiding judge of the three-member HC bench, directed the EC to dispose of the issue on Jamaat registration.
