Bijoy Robidas, the victim's elder brother lodged the case with Karimganj Police Station against unidentified people.
Ridoy, 22, of Joyka Baruk Bazar area in Karimganj, used to work at a salon at Parabaria Bhuiyan Bazar in Karimganj. He was reportedly beaten up mercilessly by some locals at a local club on Friday evening. Later he died at President Abdul Hamid Medical College and Hospital in Karimganj on Saturday morning.
Quoting the case statement, Md Mohabbat Khan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Karimganj Police Station, said Ridoy was beaten up by some youths over a "love affair" when he was standing in front of his workplace at Nowabad Bhuiyan Bazar around 6:30pm on Friday.
Later, the attackers took Ridoy to a club in the market and assaulted him again, he said.
A local union parishad chairman Mustafa Kamal was present during the beating, among others. Later, Ridoy was handed over to a local army camp.
When he fell ill, he was taken to Karimganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was referred to President Abdul Hamid Medical College and Hospital. But Ridoy died on Saturday morning, said the OC quoting the case statement.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police drives are on to arrest the attackers, said the OC.
Contacted, Mustafa Kamal, denied the allegations.
He said no one beat up Ridoy at the club. They only checked his mobile phone and found evidence of his affair with a 16-year-old Muslim girl of the same locality and they handed him over and his cousin to a local army camp around 8.00pm.
Lt Col Riazul Karim of Karimganj army camp said locals brought him to them after he was beaten up.
