JU VC leaves campus
Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Anwar Hossain left the campus bag and baggage this afternoon amid teachers’ demonstration demanding his removal.
As per the rule of the university, Pro-VC Afsar Uddin will discharge the duty as VC in his absence.
Abu Bakar, registrar of the university, told reporters that VC Anwar went on a five-day leave.
He however did not mention any ground behind his leave.
The VC along with his wife left the campus with his official car around 2:50pm under police escort.
A process of resolving the deadlock at the university has started with the VC leaving the campus, Jahangirnagar University Teachers Association (Juta) President Prof Ajit Kumar Majumder quoting the local deputy commissioner.
Dhaka District Administration Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Yousuf Harun yesterday said as per the instruction of the education secretary they went to the campus to take Anwar to Dhaka.
The further process of his removal may take place in Dhaka, The DC said.
The majority of JU teachers have been demanding Prof Anwar’s resignation since February accusing him of committing irregularities in teachers’ recruitment, spoiling teacher-student relations, and misusing university funds.
