Legal notice seeks Ershad's release
A legal notice has been served on the government seeking immediate release of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.
"Release Ershad immediately or bring him before court to prove that he is not being held in custody without lawful authority," the notice urged the authorities.
Ershad's lawyer Rafique-ul Huq in the notice said they would file a writ petition with the High Court to protect his fundamental rights.
The notice was served today on the home secretary and the deputy home secretary (police).
Members of an intelligence agency picked up Ershad from his Baridhara residence and took him to the Combined Military Hospital Thursday night.
Since the incident, he is staying at the CMH.
