Myanmar envoy presents his credentials
The newly appointed ambassador of Myanmar to Bangladesh U Ohn Thwin presented his credentials to President Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban yesterday, reports BSS.
Welcoming the Ambassador, President Shahabuddin recalled that Myanmar was among the first neighbouring countries to recognise Bangladesh in January 1972.
The two countries have been maintaining cordial and friendly relations since Bangladesh's independence, he said. He also recalled the traditional commerce and cultural ties between the two countries.
U Ohn Thwin said that the Union of Myanmar attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh. He hoped that the existing good relations between the two countries would be further developed in future.
Foreign Secretary CM Shafi Sami, Secretary to the President Muhammad Ismail Hossain and MSP Major General Jalaluddin Ahmed were present on the occasion.
