Netherlands to extend support in uplift of CHT
Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh Dick CB Den Haas called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office yesterday, reports UNB.
The Prime Minister said the problem of Chittagong Hill Tracts region was a long standing one and her government became successful in solving it.
She said the government wants development of the region having rich potentials and is taking short and long term programmes to achieve the objective.
Hasina suggested sharing of experiences on water management between the two countries and hoped that the Dutch government would extend help to Bangladesh in dredging and land reclamation.
During the meeting, the Dutch ambassador conveyed his government's assurance of continued support and assistance to Bangladesh in different fields.
He also conveyed the support of the Dutch government to the signing of peace accord on the CHT.
Den Haas said his government would extend support in the development activities of the hill tracts region.
The Dutch envoy expressed satisfaction over the realistic approach of Bangladesh for improving relations with neighbours and referred to the Ganges water sharing treaty, saying that it is a very laudable step for establishing peace in the region.
