Son of a BNP lawmaker sustained a bullet injury in a clash with ruling Awami League activists in Sandwip upazila of Chittagong today.
Critically injured Ikbal Pasha Javed, the eldest son of Mostofa Kamal Pasha, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Engineer Belayet Hossain, Sandwip upazila general secretary of BNP, told The Daily Star that the AL activists along with professional robbers attacked the lawmaker’s house with sharp weapons around 3:30pm.
Their intention was to kill the lawmaker, he alleged.
During the attack, Javed sustained a bullet injury at the right side of his chest.
He alleged that police did not go to the spot promptly though they were informed.
However, denying the allegation, Gias Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sandwip Police Station, said the situation came under control within 20 minutes as they rushed to the spot immediately.
None of AL leaders could be contacted for their comments as they did not pick up their cell phones despite several attempts.
