Meet Connor McCrory The Journalist Behind Social Media

Connor McCrory was just 14-years-old he remembers reading and watching the daily news with his grandparents, learning about the world while listening to his grandfather yell at the tv every time CNN would run a story he disagreed with.

McCrory was just the mere age of 15 when the idea of becoming a journalist became a reality - after finding out his local newspaper MyBurbank News was looking for Interns ages 16+. Shortly after contacting the Newspaper and applying for the position, McCrory received a request to meet with Craig Sherwood, who at the time was the Editor-In-Chief (EIC) of the paper.

"I remember having to lie about my age to get the Internship, which was very embarrassing because Sherwood quickly found out I was 15 and not 16, but he ended up being cool with it and event complimenting me on my ambition," McCrory told Daily Star In a phone interview.

The teenager's first assignment at the paper was covering a local concert as he was assigned to the paper's entertainment section. Some of his popular headlines included "Graceband, Yachtley Crew Entertain at Starlight Bowl" and "Mayor's Tree Lighting Jump Starts Burbank Holiday Spirit."

After interning at the publication for over a year McCrory started to receive paid job offers from multiple Industry-standard publications such as The Daily Caller, Fox News, The Sun, and more.

The word was out that McCrory was looking to write for a new newspaper, and after 3 months of downtime from an incident, McCrory has sustained in late 2019, he was finally ready to get back into his beat, but this time reporting on a more national level.

The then 16-year-old ended up taking a staff writer position with Scriberr News, a non-bias newspaper where he had gone on to cover social media and technology trends, where he was able to get a grasp of what a real newspaper was like. In 2020 alone McCrory went on to write columns in publications such as Yahoo News, The Los Angeles Tribune, Ed Times, Centennial Beauty, Grey Journal, and more!

"I was writing over 20+ articles a week at 16, and thinking back on it, that was a lot because I had to balance that with school," said McCrory.

While 2020 was a big year for the young writer, 2021 was the year where everything changed.

The Daily Caller is one of the most well respected "right-wing" publications in the world and has always had a prestigious reputation. "In January of 2021, I was contacted by Daily Caller after they had initially read one of my past articles, I was actually genuinely surprised because here I was at 17 with no formal training or anything being contacted by one of the biggest online publications in the world," McCrory stated.

After weeks of emails back and forth between McCrory and The Daily Caller, he ended up landing a role as an entertainment reporter, covering Internet culture.

McCrory is now 18-years-old and has not only written for but also advised publications such as The Blast, The Post Millennial, Daily Caller, and many more in addition to interviewing some of the social media's most notable personalities like Airrack, Griffen Johnson, Gavin Magnus, Hassan Khadair, The Kid Laroi, Mr.Beast, Jason Nash, just to name a few.

McCrory is now 18 and is an entertainment journalist at Dexerto while also serving as What's Trending's weekend editor generating over 10 million views monthly.
