Haat Bazar: An entrepreneurial experience like no other
Haat Bazar is an initiative of the Career & Placement Centre (CPC) and the Department of Management of North South University. Organised by NSU Young Entrepreneurs Society (YES!), the event is held every semester with the aim of giving the students a taste of what it feels like to be an entrepreneur for a day. The theme for this semester's Haat Bazar, held on 23rd March, was "Circus." Complete with a stilt walker, a clown, and a daylong bioscope, the number of stalls this time surpassed that of all previous semesters.
HOW IT WORKS
Haat Bazar is a business/entrepreneurship simulation. 33 teams with a total of 154 members participated in the event this time. Prior to the event, participants underwent a month-long incubation period to groom their ideas. Teams create their own products, do their own branding, invest their own money, and try their utter best to sell to the students of NSU.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
The course instructors evaluate the performances of the participants on various factors including leader
ship, service/product innovation, operation management, pre-event sales promotion, selling techniques, customer relationship management, customer satisfaction, inventory management, and so on.
But the most important aspect of all is the firsthand experience of the world of business that the students get. A group of students from YES! pose as mobile court agents who check the quality of the products that are brought and see if they are legal. They also pose as goons to give the students a feel of real-life corruption.
The stall owners, so far, have delivered, overcoming all obstacles thrown their way and satisfying their demanding customers.
