What to do when you run out of knowledge?
The world is moving faster every day and newer topics and issues are coming to light. It is imperative to say that we shouldn't be comfortable with the knowledge that we have. No matter which discipline we are studying in and which career path we have chosen, we should always be on our toes and bring in the habit of continuous learning.
Will traditional knowledge become obsolete? No, it won't, but we will be needing to unlearn a lot of things and gather new knowledge. Hence, we shouldn't be relieved when we are done with our secondary, higher secondary and tertiary education. Rather, it is necessary to focus on the relevance of that learning and knowledge to our career planning. In this time and age, the more you know about different issues and the more skills you have, the more edge you will have in the workplace, regardless of which career path you have chosen.
Owing to the fourth industrial revolution, jobs and different fields are becoming increasingly dependent on each other and the lines between different fields are blurring. Prevailing jobs will soon be replaced by newer jobs and people will inevitably fall into the trenches of unemployment. For example, a certain individual might have to perform the function of managing automated machinery, where they have to manage the machine, know the technicalities of the machine process and analyze the data received from the machine. So at a time, the individual will be doing three very distinct jobs.
It is necessary to continuously gather new knowledge and skills, so that one does not reach a plateau in their career. Change is constant and we are the ones who have to keep up with that change.
