‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Magura cops
An alleged robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Magura Sadar upazila early today.
Four police constables were injured in the reported gun battle that took place near Magura-Jhenidah road around 2:00am, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.
The dead is Alfu Biswas, 37, a resident of Pakakharda village in the upazila, the daily reports.
Police raided areas near Rautara Hridoynath High School on receiving information that “robbers” were taking preparation to commit robbery there, said Sudorshan Roy, assistant superintendent of police.
Sensing their presence, the gang opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate that triggered a “gunfight”.
Alfu was caught in the line of fire and was hit by a bullet in his chest, the ASP said.
He was taken to Magura Sadar Hospital around 2:50am where doctors declared him dead, said Mamtaj Majid, an official of the hospital’s emergency department.
Alfu was accused in four cases including a murder and two robbery cases, the ASP said.
Police recovered a shooter gun, two bullets and three sharp weapons from the spot.
