2 killed in Ctg wall collapse
Two people were killed in a wall collapse in Chittagong city this morning.
The deceased are Kusum Akter, 38, wife of Manirul Haque of West Madarbari in the port city, and Sudhir Chakraborty, 35, hailed from Senbag upazila of Noakhal, police said.
Two boundary walls of Hotel Abrar and adjacent railway land collapsed on them at East Madarbari around 10:00am. Huge bricks piled against the walls also fell on the victims, said Sub Inspector Nasir Uddin of Sadarghat Police Station.
The incident took place when Kusum was going to bring back her fourth grader son from the coaching centre and Sudhir, a labour of a transport company, was going to his workplace in the area, said the SI said.
On information, members of the fire service rushed to the spot and rescued Kusum around 11:00 am, said Abdul Malek, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chittagong, adding that Sudhir was rescued at around 11:50 am.
Critically injured Kusum and Sudhir were immediately rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared them dead, said Assistant Sub-Inspector Pankaj Barua of CMCH police camp.
The two boundary walls were in dilapidated but rain worsened the condition, the SI said.
Contacted, Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat Police Station, said police were investigating into the incident.
