109 jailed for public urination

During a cleanliness drive conducted by the Government Railway Police of Agra, 109 people were sent to jail for public urination, reports the Times of India.

The people were caught urinating in public including railway property, platforms and parking lots.

Gopeshnath Khanna, senior superintendent of police reportedly ordered the cleanliness drive and punishment of the offenders following the disturbing urine stink and spitting stains all around railway premises.

The drive was conducted over a 48-hour period across 12 stations of GRP, Agra division. Of the 109, 27 people were caught in the act on Friday.

The offenders were later released after paying a fine depending on the gravity of the act of creating a public nuisance.

"In a special drive conducted at several stations of Agra division, 10​9​ men were sent to jail for 24 hours​ and were penalized up to Rs 500 for urinating in public places on railway properties in front of women and children. They were also fined for creating public nuisance by consuming alcohol or spitting pan masala from the window of trains in public place,” said Khanna.

"The drive is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of 'Swachh Bharat' campaign” he added.
