Rony denied bail, sent to jail
A Dhaka court today denied ruling party lawmaker’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony bail and sent him to jail in a case over killing two people in Dhaka.
This was the third time Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son was denied bail.
Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Haque passed the order in presence of the accused. Probe officer of the case Sub-Inspector Dipok Kumar Das produced Rony at court around 1:00pm.
He was serving a two-day remand in the case.
Police had pleaded court not to let Rony out in bail fearing that he could intervene and influence with the investigation process.
Drunk, Rony fired gunshots from his car “frustrated with the post-midnight traffic” at New Eskaton on April 14 that led to the death of a rickshaw-puller and another auto-rickshaw driver.
Police have said with the testimonies and evidences collected, they are confident they will be able to prove at court that it was Rony who fired the shots and killed the two people.
Rony’s friends, who were accompanying him that night, have already testified before a magistrate accusing the lawmaker’s son to have fired the gunshots in a drunken rage.
