Arrest order for 9 cops, bank official

A Gaibandha court today issued arrest warrants against nine policemen and the manager of a Sonali Bank branch in the district in connection with beating up two court officials.

Judge SM Taskimul Haque passed the order after taking into cognisance a case filed by the two victims on July 2.

Arrest warrants are issued against Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ahmed Raziur Rahman, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rakib Hossain of Detective Branch, ASI Aiyub Hossain and Manager Aish Uddin of Sonali Bank's main branch in Gaibandha, reports our correspondent, adding that the rest are police constables.

Earlier last week, two officials of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of the district went to the Sonali Bank's main branch in Gaibandha. They got engaged in a scuffle with the security over standing in lines in the bank.

Following the incident, the branch manager called the duo to his chamber where the duo was beaten up by the accused.

Later, the duo filed a case accusing 10 people in this connection on July 2.

Contacted, OC Raziur Rahman told The Daily Star, "The issue was resolved. I do not why this has gone so far."

On the other hand, branch manager Aish Uddin could not be reached over phone for comments despite repeated attempts.
