SC to pass Fakhrul’s bail order after getting medical report
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir did not get bail from the Supreme Court today as it did not pass order on the government’s petitions that challenged the High Court order that granted the leader bail in three cases.
The Appellate Division of the SC, which was set to pass order on the petitions today, did not pass the order since it is yet to receive the medical report on Fakhrul’s health.
Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha said that the court will pass order when they get the report.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that he will submit the report before the court as soon as he receives it from the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
Fakhrul will not get release from jail until the SC grants him bail, Badruddoza Badal, a lawyer for the BNP leader, told The Daily Star.
On July 5, the SC ordered the BSMMU authority to form a four-member medical board to examine Fakhrul’s health and submit a health report by July 8 (today).
On June 21, the HC granted bail to Fakhrul in the three cases filed with Paltan Police Station on January 4, 5 and 7 under exclusive substances act 1908.
Later the government filed three petitions with the SC seeking stay on the HC order.
