It used to be a great hassle to buy cinema tickets on Eid day: Sabbir
Powerful actor Mir Sabbir has been an active presence on the small screen for over a decade. He has also ventured into direction. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the popular small screen actor talked about Eid shopping, plays and more. Excerpts:
Tell us about your Eid plays…
Sabbir: I've acted in 10-12 plays this time. Though I'm not doing so much work this Eid, the audience will get to see me in a great play based on a story by Humayun Ahmed.
How do you feel after watching your own plays?
Sabbir: It is a good experience because I can be self critical, discover my mistakes and get an opportunity to learn from the mistakes. I believe that every actor or actress should watch their own work.
Where will you celebrate Eid this time?
Sabbir: I will spend the day with my family in Dhaka. It is great to celebrate the festival with my children. I'm so lucky to be able to do so.
Who does the Eid shopping mostly?
Sabbir: My wife Chumki. I really cannot manage the time to shop around due to my busy shooting schedule.
Any memories of the days when you celebrated Eid in your hometown?
Sabbir: We used to have great fun in Barguan during the festival. I have clear and fond memories of those days.
What did you do after returning from Eidgah in Barguna on Eid day?
Sabbir: After a delicious meal, my friends and I used to head straight to a cinema hall to take in a movie. Those days it was a great hassle to get cinema tickets. Also we would delight in collecting fresh bank notes.
What was your favourite pastime in your childhood?
Sabbir: I was addicted to kite flying during the peak season. I would be really very upset if my kite got lost or cut.
