Rajon Killing: Another accused detained
Another accused in the murder of 13-year-old Sheikh Md Samiul Alam Rajon was detained this morning in Sylhet.
Villagers of Sheikhpara of sadar upazila captured the accused Ali Haider, 37, and handed him over to the Jalalabad Police Station around 11:00am, reports our Moulavibazar correspondent.
Md Rahmat Ullah, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police confirmed the matter.
Haider was hiding in a house at Sheikhpara.
With this development, eight persons including the four accused have been detained in connection with the murder of Rajon who died from torture after a group of brutes were "punishing" him in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet on July 8. His "crime", they claimed, was stealing.
In the video footage that went viral on July 12, Kamrul, another accused, was seen beating Md Samiul Alam Rajon mercilessly. He, his brother Muhit Alam and some others beat the minor boy to death. One of them filmed the brutal beating and shared it on social media, sparking outrage at home and abroad.
The father of the deceased Sheikh Md Azizur Rahman filed a case with Jalalabad Police Station accusing Muhit Alam, his brother Kamrul Islam, Moyna Mia and Ali Haider.
Local people captured Muhit, the prime accused while he was trying to hide the body. Later he was handed over to the police and now is on a five-day remand.
On July 13, Saudi police detained Kamrul in a suburb of Jeddah. Mobile phone footage from Jeddah, where he was captured by Bangladeshi migrants, showed him saying that he beat up the kid. He is now in police custody in Nazlah district.
Moyna Mia was detained on the following day from the Tuker Bazar area in Sylhet around 10:30pm.
