Eid-ul-Fitr's appeal conducive to building peaceful society: President

President Abdul Hamid today said Eid-ul-Fitr's appeal is unique to build a peaceful and friendly society as the people of all strata, including the rich and poor, and the elite and common people stand in the same line on this day.

"These days all people, including the rich and poor, and the elite and common people stand in the same line and share the joy of Eid. So, the appeal of Eid-ul-Fitr is unique to build a peaceful and friendly society," he said.

The president was talking to the media during a reception marking the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, at Bangabhaban in the morning.

President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom hosted the reception to senior government officials, city elite and diplomats.

Observing that Bangladesh is a unique symbol of communal harmony in the world, he said every social and religious festival in Bangladesh becomes festival of all, irrespective of religion and caste, participate in it overwhelmingly.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the chief justice, ministers, PM's advisers and the chief whip attended the event.

Besides, judges of the Supreme Court, the chief election commissioner, members of parliament, leaders of different political parties, the cabinet secretary, the chiefs of the three services, secretaries, editors, senior journalists, senior lawyers, representatives of the business community, religious personalities, artistes, and high civil and military officials joined the function.

The Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries in Bangladesh and the heads of international agencies also attended the reception.

The president and his wife welcomed the guests, exchanged Eid greetings with them and wished them a prosperous life.
