Cases filed over Ctg landslide, wall collapse
Police today filed two cases and arrested two people in connection with landslide and wall collapses that killed six people in Chittagong city.
Two detained over the landslide are Shahabuddin and Joynal Abedin. They used to rent out houses after occupying hills illegally, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Abdul Halim, a sub-inspector of Bayezid Police Station, filed the lawsuit early today accusing five people including the two, Manosh Barua, another SI of Bayezid Police Station, said.
Later, the two, brothers in connection, were arrested from Forest Research Centre area around 4:30am, the police official said. “Police are trying to arrest the other culprits”.
Landslides in Chittagong take place often in the monsoon, triggered by rain that breaks the soil loose from the hills. In one such landslide yesterday, three sleeping children were killed yesterday.
And now, after the deaths of the children in Amin colony of Bayezid area, authorities this morning started relocating the people who are still living there.
Meanwhile, the other case was filed accusing one Khokon Ali in connection with the deaths of three people who died due to a wall collapse in Lalkhan area.
Khokon is the owner of the houses was made accused on charge of negligence that caused deaths of three people in the wall collapse.
