An inspector of Special Branch of police and his wife were found dead at their flat in the capital's Chamelibagh yesterday.
Police suspect the couple's 17-year-old daughter Oishee Rahman might have killed them in the wee hours of Thursday.
The deceased are Mahfuzur Rahman, 48, and his wife Swapna Rahman, 40.
On information from Mahfuzur's brother-in-law Rabiul Alam, police recovered the decomposing bodies breaking into the flat on the fifth floor of the building around 4:00pm yesterday.
The bodies were found in Oishee's bathroom and they bore several stab wounds, said police.
Amzad Ali, caretaker of the building, told The Daily Star that Mahfuzur on August 4 had instructed him not to let Oishee leave the building without his or his wife's consent.
But around 8:00am on Thursday, Oishee got down to the ground floor and asked the caretaker to call a CNG-run three-wheeler for her.
When the vehicle came she went back to the flat to bring her luggage. As the caretaker called on the intercom to see if Oishee had her parents' consent to leave, a female voice told him to let her go, said the caretaker.
He now suspects that Oishee might have mimicked her mother's voice over the intercom.
Minutes after the intercom call, the girl got down with her eight-year-old brother Ohidur Rahman and house help Sumi, 10, and they all boarded the three-wheeler, added Amzad.
Oishee had not returned since.
Around 2:00am yesterday, she called one of her uncles Iftekharul Alam from her mother's phone asking for his address in Uttara, said Oishee's uncle Rabiul.
She told Iftekhar that her mother had gone to her village home after a fight with her father and Mahfuzur went there to bring her back. She said she was living at her friend's house.
Yesterday morning, informed by Ifterkhar, Rabiul came to check on the family and found the flat locked and nobody answering the phone.
Around 10:00am, Rabiul called Oishee on her mother's number and she told him that she was in Kakrail and was coming home with her brother. She also said their house help had been sent to her home in Aftabnagar.
This was the last time anyone could reach Oishee over the phone.
Around 10:30am, Ohidul returned to his Chamelibagh home alone by a rickshaw. Rabiul waited there for a couple of hours for Oishee, but as she did not come he took his nephew to his home.
Rabiul and other relatives also contacted the Special Branch to know the whereabouts of Mahfuzur and they were informed that Oishee's father had not contacted them in the last two days.
The Special Branch then asked Paltan police to look into the matter. Police found the bodies in Oishee's bathroom and sent them to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsies.
Police said the body of Mahfuzur bore a deep injury in the throat and his wife had three to four stab wounds in the abdomen. They have also recovered a bloodstained knife and a kitchen knife from the scene.
They said Oishee's room was in a mess and so was one of the almirahs, said Rabiul.
Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Golam Sarwar said police were trying to trace Oishee.
