JCD president denied bail
A Patuakhali court today rejected the bail prayers of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan and five of his associates in a case filed for alleged possession of yaba tablets.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Tareque Shams sent them to jail after rejecting their bail petitions when police produced them before the court.
The court also fixed August 10 for the next hearing of the case filed under the narcotics control act, reports Patuakhali correspondent.
Police arrested Rajib and five others allegedly with 45 yaba tablets in a bag and a bottle of whisky in Lebukhali Ferry terminal on Barisal-Patuakhali highway in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali. They were reportedly on their way to Kuakata from Barisal by a private car.
Meanwhile, BNP today demanded immediate release of the JCD chief, saying that ‘he was arrested in a stage managed drama.’
BNP Spokesperson Asaduzzman Ripon, addressing a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan central office, said that the allegations against the JCD chief were false and has no basis in reality.
“The government’s move to eliminate opposition has been reflected through the arrest of Rajib,” he added.
