Syria-linked jihadist denied bail
The High Court today rejected bail petition of a UK citizen of Bangladeshi origin, who came here for recruiting jihadists for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, in a case filed for conspiring to establish an IS group in Bangladesh.
The HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order considering that the petition was not submitted properly before the court.
Additional Attorney General Murad Reza told the court that Samiun Rahman alias Ibn Hamdan cannot get bail since there are some serious allegations against him.
Samiun entered Bangladesh to recruit jihadists to fight in the war in Syria, according to police.
He was made accused in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Detectives arrested him on September 28 last year.
