Eid transaction over Tk 1 trillion

Transaction during the recent Eid season surpassed Tk 1 trillion, Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman said today.

The exact money amounted to Tk 1 lakh 12 thousand crore – which is nearly a third of the size of the budget passed for 2015-16 fiscal.

“This reflects that the economy was good this year. People had money to spend,” he said during a view exchange meeting with economic reporters over monetary policy in Dhaka this afternoon.

Earlier this month, Bangladesh achieved the status of a lower middle-income country according to the World Bank – which drew appreciation and skepticisms from economists.

Also, during his speech, he said that this year the bank will disburse $500 million foreign loans for entrepreneurs.
