Another suspect remanded over Rajon killing
A Sylhet court today allowed police three days to grill another suspect in the sensational murder of 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajon.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sahedul Karim passed the order after the Detective Branch of police produced Ayaz Ali, 45, before the court with a 10-day remand prayer, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Police detained Ayaz from Kumargaon Bus Stand last night as he was an eyewitness of the incident, said Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station.
A total of 13 people have so far been arrested in connection with the killing, the OC added.
Locals caught a total of eight people and later handed them over to Jalalabad Police Station for their direct involvement in the killing incident, the OC said adding that they are now on remand for different terms.
Apart from them, three people including Ayaz Ali have been detained as they were eyewitnesses of the killing incident, he added.
Rajon died of brain haemorrhage after he was tortured by a group of brutes who were “punishing” him in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet on July 8 on charges of theft.
Around 64 injury marks were found on his body.
Days into the killing, Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the incident.
Following the report given by the probe body, authorities yesterday closed an inspector and suspended two sub-inspectors of Jalalabad Police Station after a probe has found their negligence in arresting Rajon killers.
