Satkhira journo severely assaulted by 'Jamaat-Shibir'
A journalist in Satkhira received severe head injuries this afternoon when alleged activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, kidnapped and beat him up severely.
Victim Yarob Hossain, 40, is a local correspondent of Bangla daily Manabzamin, and also the joint secretary of Satkhira Press Club, said Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station.
The condition of Hossain will be known after a 72-hour observation, said Hasanuzzaman, surgery consultant of Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Jamaat-Shibir men waylaid Hossain around 10:30am when he reached Devnagar area riding on a motorcycle, the OC said.
The victim was heading towards the press club from his Tujulpur village home when he came under Jamaat-Shibir attack, reports our Satkhira correspondent.
The party men caught him and took him away to a nearby field of Uttar Devnagar Primary School, nearly one kilometer away from the scene, and beat him up mercilessly.
On information, police went to the spot, rescued the victim and sent him to the hospital.
