Police have filed a murder case against 15 opposition leaders including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for yesterday's arson attack on a bus at Malibagh in Dhaka that left a man dead and three injured.
BNP leaders Mirza Abbas, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Salahuddin Ahmed and Barkatullah Bulu are among the other accused.
When opposition activists hurled a petrol bomb at a bus in Malibagh around 7:30pm yesterday, the bus lost control and crushed one Habibur Rahman dead and injured a rickshaw-puller.
Two passengers also suffered burn injuries in the bomb attack during the first day of BNP-led 18-party combine-enforced 72-hour countrywide blockade.
Zahirul Islam, a sub-inspector of Ramna Police Station, filed the case Saturday night.
According to the case statement, the accused leaders plotted the attack and provided money to the attackers, Selim Mia, inspector (Investigation) of the police station told The Daily Star.
At least 20 unidentified miscreants carried out the arson attack, the statement said.
The case was filed two days after Shahbagh police filed a case against Fakhrul and 15 other senior BNP leaders in connection with an arson attack on a bus at Shahbagh that left two passengers dead and 17 others burnt.
The opposition called the blockade of roads, rail and waterways for the second time in a span of a week protesting schedule for 10th parliamentary election and “false cases” against its leaders and “torture and repression” of its activists.
