BNP councilors endorse Khaleda, Tarique re-election
Councilors of BNP today approved Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman as chairperson and senior vice-chairman of the party respectively through the party’s sixth national council in Dhaka.
All the councilors also vested their power to Khaleda Zia for electing members of the party’s national standing committee and officials of its executive committee.
BNP standing committee member Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain proposed this before the councilors, saying it would not be realistic to carry out the activities of electing members of the national standing committee due to shortage of time.
Everybody agreed with him by raising their hands.
On March 6, the two top leaders were elected unopposed as nobody picked up nomination papers for the two key posts.
During the council, BNP standing committee member and chief election commissioner Jamir Uddin Sircar placed the poll results before around 3,000 councilors of the party during the council today.
The councilor later endorsed both Khaleda and Tarique unanimously.
In the obituary motion adopted in the council, names of convicted war criminal and BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was included.
Besides, names of president Zillur Rahman, Awami League leaders and lawmakers including Baby Moudud and Social welfare minister Syed Mohsin Ali were also included in the obituary motion.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi piloted the obituary motion.
