Enclave swap: BNP greets new citizens

Terming it a historical event, BNP chief Khaleda Zia has expressed happiness over the freedom of around 52,000 people following the formal swap of 162 enclaves between Bangladesh and India.

BNP Spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said this while addressing a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office today.

“Khaleda Zia is cheerful over the tear-soaked freedom of 52,000 people. It’s an historical incident.”

Khaleda Zia also extended greetings to the new citizens following the amalgamation of the 111 enclaves with Bangladeshi territory, Ripon added.

“Our party chief has urged the government to ensure all civic and government facilities for the new citizens by taking development projects for them immediately,” he added.

The government should take all necessary steps to ensure education, healthcare and economic development of the new citizens, Ripon said.
