Tonu murder case shifted to CID
The members of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will now investigate the Comilla Victoria college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case.
“In line with the directives of the police headquarters, the case was shifted to the CID today to expedite its probe,” Mohammad Shah Abid Hossain, superintendent of police (SP) in Comilla, told The Daily Star.
“Our IGP is very concerned about the incident and he wants real facts behind the killing for the sake of justice,” the police official said.
A five-member investigation team led by Nazmul Karim Khan, special police supper of Comilla-Noakhali division, has been formed to investigate the incident, the SP said.
“CID is now well equipped with modern technologies. It can carry out investigation into any sensitive cases smoothly. That's why Tonu murder case was shifted to the CID,” he added.
Tonu, a second year history student and a theatre activist, was murdered near Comilla Cantonment area on March 20 night.
According to a press release of ISPR, the unconscious body of the 19-year-old college student was found in the bordering area of the cantonment by the victim’s father and he informed the military police.
Right away, Tonu was taken to the Combined Military Hospital there and the duty-doctor declared her dead.
Tonu's father, Yar Hossain filed a killing case with Comilla Kotawali Police Station.
