Trishal UNO dies in road crash
The upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Trishal in Mymensingh was killed and a staff was seriously injured in a road accident in Boilor area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the upazila this evening.
Deceased Rashedul Islam, 38, hailed from Lohagacha village in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district.
The UNO was on the way to Hodder Vita village in Trishal, riding a motorcycle driven by his office peon Nasar Uddin, 35, to attend a local arbitration over a disputed land, said Md Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station, quoting locals and eye-witnesses.
When they reached Boilor area around 5:45pm, a passenger bus of Padma Gate-lock Service hit their motorcycle from behind, injuring them critically.
After the crash, the UNO skidded off the bike and sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), where doctors announced him dead, the OC also said.
Peon Nasar Uddin was admitted at Community Based Medical College Hospital in Mymensingh sadar upazila and was later shifted to MMCH as his condition deteriorated, sources said.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh Uddin, Deputy Commissioner Mustakim Billah Faruqui, Deputy Inspector General (Mymensingh Range) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and ex-AL lawmaker Alhaj Ruhul Amin Madani among others have visited the hospital.
