Flat handover starts in Dec
The implementation of Rajuk’s Uttara (3rd phase) flat project is finally gathering pace as handover of the flats of the first 10 buildings to buyers begins in December.
Under the project, Rajuk will construct 179 buildings of 14 storeys which would have 15,036 flats. An estimated 75,000 people will live in the project area.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) is now building 79 high-rises in Block-A of Sector-18 in Uttara.
“The handover of flats will start in December. We hope to complete the handover of all the flats by June 2018,” said Project Director Raihanul Ferdous.
The project is being implemented on around 214 acres of land at a cost of over Tk 9,000 crore. Rajuk is charging a buyer around Tk 79 lakh for a 1,654-square-foot flat.
The project got underway in 2012 when the Rajuk had planned to build flats of three sizes in each of the buildings, with the biggest one being 1654sqft. A consortium of South Korean firm Donga and local Ena Properties was tasked with the construction job.
As the joint venture failed to make any significant progress, Rajuk in 2014 awarded contracts to 19 local companies to complete the project.
Rajuk then decided that all flats would be of the same size (1,654sqft). “We thought that people would not be interested in smaller flats as the project site is far away from downtown Dhaka,” said Raihanul.
Each flat will have three bedrooms, one living and one dining room, three bathrooms and a car parking space.
Besides, there will be health clubs, educational institutions, kitchen markets, community complex, playgrounds and shopping malls in the project area.
The infrastructure for supplying electricity and water to the buildings are being built. The supply of gas will depend on the government's approval as it is not allowing new gas connections since 2010, the project director said.
The residents will also be able to use the metro rail, once it is constructed, he added.
