Dravid Jr. scores century for club team
Ex- India batsman, The ‘Wall” Rahul Dravid's son Samit seems to be following in his father's footsteps. All of 10 years of age, Samit scored a century in an Under-14 club cricket match at the Loyola ground in Bangalore.
Representing Bangalore United Cricket Club (BUCC), which his father serves as a President, Dravid Jr. stroked 125 against Frank Anthony Public School in the Tiger Cup cricket tournament, reports Times of India.
Samit's 125, which was decorated with 12 boundaries, was the second-highest score since his team-mate Pratyush G remained unbeaten on 143. Samit and Pratyush's combined effort resulted in a emphatic 246-run win for the BUCC. The tournament features a total of 16 school and clubs teams and organise the Under-12 and Under-14 cricket matches. Overall, 117 matches are played across 35 days.
This however, is not the first time Samit has made headlines. Dravid Jr. made headlines when was awarded the 'Best Batsman' in a U-12 Gopalan Cricket Challenge in September last year.
Back then, he scored three match-winning half-centuries with scores of 77*, 93, and 77 in the final playing for his school Mallya Aditi International.
Dravid, who is currently mentor of the Delhi Daredevils, had earlier spoken about his son's contrasting batting style. "He's ok, he's got good hand-eye coordination. But no, he just smashes it and that is what I encourage him to do - just smash it," Dravid had said of Samit last year.
"I don't really get into trying to coach him too much. I just want him to enjoy it and just play the game, have some fun with it. He plays different sports at the moment, which is good - he plays football and cricket, he swims. So that's nice. He is too young at the moment for anything more.
