BNP today termed the yesterday’s High Court verdict that scrapped the 16th constitutional amendment as “historical”.

The amendment passed in 2014 empowered parliament to impeach Supreme Court judges for “incapacity or misconduct”. Following yesterday's HC verdict, the Jatiya Sangsad has lost the power to remove Supreme Court judges on grounds of incapacity or misconduct.

“People welcome the verdict,” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said while addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Nayapaltan of Dhaka this afternoon.
