AL men assault Feni UNO, 3 held: Cops

Local Awami League activists and supporters allegedly assaulted the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Parshuram in Feni today. Three people have been detained in this regard.

Injured H M Rakib Haidar, was taken at the upazila health complex and later shifted to Feni Sadar Hospital, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

According to police and eyewitnesses, ruling party activists, the UNO and the upazila chairman thronged at Dhanikunda point on Feni-Parshuram road as Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan was scheduled to visit Bilonia land port.

During this time, the UNO said to have had an altercation with Awami League supporters at scene that surfaced over a trifling matter. The party men said to have beaten up the UNO.

Three people including a councilor of the Parshuram municipality have been detained in this connection, Abul Kashem Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Parshuram Police Station, said.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan along with some local MPs went to the hospital and visited the hospitalised UNO.
