Indian foreign secy arrives for ‘security talks’
India's foreign secretary has arrived in Dhaka to hold discussion with Bangladesh's high-ups on security situation and bilateral issues.
Subramanyam Jaishankar arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:20pm by a Jet Airways flight, officials said.
He was received at the airport by his Bangladesh counterpart Md Shahidul Haque, Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla and other high officials.
The Indian top diplomat is scheduled to call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at 7:30pm at her Gano Bhaban and with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at 9:00pm today.
Diplomatic sources said Jaishankar is expected to convey New Delhi's full support to Bangladesh on countering violent extremism amid spreading of terrorist acts in recent months.
Jaishankar is due to meet with think-tanks, academic and civil society representatives at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel tomorrow morning.
The Indian Foreign Secretary will hold bilateral meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Md Shahidul Haque at 12 noon when the two Foreign Secretaries will discuss entire range of bilateral issues, including water-sharing, transit, development of Pyra Port, trade and investment, Indian Line of Credit, review implementation of various development projects.
The Indian Foreign Secretary will depart Dhaka for New Delhi at 5:20pm tomorrow.
