Amu to represent PM at Mamata’s swearing-in
Industries minister Amir Hossain Amu will represent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the oath taking ceremony of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmud Ali confirmed participation of Amu, member of the advisory council of the ruling Awami League, today at a press conference at his office.
Mamata is scheduled to take oath on Friday.
The decision has likely been taken from the office of the premier as the foreign minister had hinted earlier. Mamata’s invitation was directly placed at the table of PM Hasina.
Among others on the guest list of Mamata’s swearing-in are Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, ministers and leaders of different political parties.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to drop the invitation as she had a pre-scheduled five-day official tour to undertake in Japan, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
PM Hasina had telephoned Mamata and greeted her on her election to the chief minister of West Bengal in May 2011, but this time Hasina did not call her or send any letter of felicitations on her second election victory.
