BNP’s Aslam charged with treason
Police today filed a sedition case against BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury for allegedly fraternising with Israel to overthrow the government.
Golam Kibria, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, filed the sedition case against Aslam with Gulshan Police Station this evening, Deputy Commissioner (North) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Sheikh Nazmul Alam told The Daily Star.
Earlier in the daily, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque told journalists that police had found evidence that Aslam conspired with an Israeli politician to overthrow the Awami League-led government.

According to rule, the government must endorse a sedition charge before a case is filed in this regard.
“The government has already cleared the way to file a sedition charge against Aslam,” the IGP said after a programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka this afternoon.
Aslam was hatching the conspiracy in exchange of money, Haque added.

The BNP leader, who had drawn controversy after meeting an Israeli politician in India early this month, was arrested by detectives from Khilkhet area in Dhaka on May 15.
The arrest was made hours after police authorities announced that he would be arrested wherever he could be seen.
