Video catches baby elephant rescue in Sri Lanka

A young elephant was rescued from an uncovered drain in Sri Lanka's southern port of Hambantota on Sunday.

The calf appeared to have fallen into a drain on the main road leading to the port.

Local port workers joined forces with wildlife officials to break open more of the drain and pull the animal out.

It was taken away for medical treatment, reportedly with a suspected broken leg.

Jungle in the area has made way for construction in recent years, threatening hundreds of wild elephants.
