Internet communications equipment to cost less

Internet use through WiFi and Wimax will get some boost as the finance minister today proposed to reduce import duty on these products.

In his budget speech placed before the parliament today, Finance Minister AMA Muhith proposed reduction of import duty on WiFi and Wimax local area network card and access point related products to 15 from 25 percent.

He also proposed increase of import duty on biometric finger print scanner to 5 percent from existing 2 percent.

Optical fibre cables import duty was proposed to be increased to 15 percent from existing 10 percent.

Reacting to it, some businessmen concerned said it would create a hurdle to expand their networks.

Meanwhile, patient monitor found 5 percent duty from existing 1 percent, according to the proposed budget.
