Sir John Wilson School must stop charging extra

The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court order that directed the principal of Sir John Wilson School in the capital’s Satarkul area to refrain from charging additional fees from students for the current year.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Mirza Hussain Haider passed “no order” on a petition filed by the principal of the school seeking stay on the HC order.

The chamber judge’s court also sent the stay petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division and fixed September 1 for its hearing.  

Following a writ petition filed by guardians of 33 students of the school, the HC on May 30 ordered its principal to refrain from charging additional fees and also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why they should not be directed to bring the school under Private English Medium Registration Rules, 2007.

Petitioners’ counsel Aneek R Haque told The Daily Star that authorities concerned of Sir John Wilson School cannot collect additional fees from the students this year following the SC order.
